Introducing the Solihull Approach to Australia

What is the Solihull Approach?

The Solihull Approach aims to increase emotional health and well-being through both professionals and parents. It does this through resources, training across the workforce and parenting groups.  Many parents and professionals are already trained and supported here in Australia.

Solihull Approach

For Professionals working with children

 

  • It is used for workforce development: increases skills and knowledge, consistency and shared language across agencies. 
  • It can be used for early intervention and prevention in the early years, as well as across childhood and into adulthood.
  • It can be used for teambuilding, for everyone in a team e.g. children’s centre, perinatal unit, school (from receptionists to support staff to teachers).
  • It provides a theoretical framework for working with emotional and behaviour difficulties. 
  • It has a strong and growing evidence base, with over 35 published papers, an RCT and another in the pipeline.
  • It can be used at a public health level.

  • It provides parenting programmes from conception through to adolescence, both face to face and online.
  • It has a particular emphasis on including fathers. 
  • It increases the accessibility of parenting programmes through online parenting courses in 108 languages. Several countries and counties offer these across their population.
  • Topics include; Understanding your baby/child/teenager, Brain development, Communication, plus many more.
  • Parent support enabling your family to flourish.
  • Enhance your relationship.

For Managers

An evidence-based model that provides a structure to mobilise reflective thinking. Promoting emotional health and wellbeing by supporting relationships. 


2 Day Foundation Training

 -  Increase job satisfaction

 -  A time efficient process for effective communication.


This is not another how-to-do-it intervention, it is a synthesis of theories to provide a framework for supporting the fundamental beliefs of the presenting issues. The model enables managers to actively use theory to support practice when considering ways to think about relationships and early relational experiences. The aim being, to promote emotional and social development in the workplace.


1 Day Advanced Training - Reflective Supervision

Following any 2 day Foundation Training, professionals can then attend any advance training to consolidate learning.
